What is IRL Connect?
IRL Connect is a visual social network that lets you follow your friends on the map and see what they are saying and doing through conversations, photos, videos and live streaming broadcasts from mobile devices. You can even integrate it with your Facebook and Twitter accounts to update your status and connect with all of your friends from multiple networks. Sense your friends!

IRL Connect is completely Web-based, so there is no download or software to install.
↑ TopHow do I navigate around IRL Connect?
Use the control panel on the left to navigate around IRL Connect – Talk, Friends and Event History.
You can zoom in and out with your scroll wheel and the 
& 
buttons and by clicking on the map to view different areas. Click and drag your icon to place it in a new location or search for a friend or location and then click on the crosshair. 
This turns your mouse into a crosshair. Now you can just click anywhere on the map to move your icon there.
How do I find a friend?
The search bar in the right top corner of the application allows you to find places and people. Just type in your friend's username and press enter.
↑ TopHow do I upload a picture?
Click on your icon on the map and then click on the orange avatar. This will open up a window where you can upload your avatar. Please do not include spaces in the filename. We support PNG, JPG and GIF files up to 200 x 200 pixels max.
↑ TopHow can I add personal information about myself?
Click on your icon on the map and update your personal information there. Press save to apply the changes.
↑ TopHow do I change my location?
Search for a friend or location and then click on the crosshair. This turns your mouse into a crosshair. Now you can just click anywhere on the map to move your icon there.
↑ TopHow do I find my location if I can¡¯t see my icon on the map?
Click on the ME crosshair to show your location.
↑ TopIs it possible to automatically update my location?
Yes, IRL Connect has built-in Wi-Fi support from Loki. To enable Wi-Fi positioning, click the Loki button. This will automatically update your location when you move 2 km or more away from your current icon position.
↑ TopHow do I send a private message to another user?
Click on the inbox icon next to the logo and select Compose. Select the name of the friend in the To field. Then enter your subject and message and send!
↑ TopCan everyone see my message in Talk?
The event stream is public. If you would like to communicate one-on-one, send a private message by using the inbox.
↑ TopWhat is the difference between Friends and Public in Talk?
The Friends stream shows all the communication you have with your friends across platforms. The Public stream is a public timeline that shows all messages from everyone on IRL Connect.
↑ TopWhat are Replies?
Replies are a quick way to see only the messages that users have sent to you in the Talk stream.
↑ TopHow do I update my status?
Click on Talk and start typing to enter your status in 140 characters or less. Then click on send to submit. Click on the Public tab to see what everyone is saying or on the Friends tab to see what your friends are saying.
↑ TopWhat do R D and + mean under user avatars in Talk?
These are minicons. Use the minicons to easily send a @reply (
) or a private message (
) or to add that person as a friend (

How do I update my status on Twitter or Facebook?
First you must integrate IRL Connect with your Twitter or Facebook account. To do this, go to the Settings icon in the upper left corner next to the IRL Connect logo, select Twitter or Facebook and enter your account name and password. You can select the contacts you want to bring over to IRL Connect. When you update your status by clicking on Talk, you will see boxes to turn on or off to send that status message to Twitter, Facebook or both.
↑ TopHow do I invite my friends from Twitter to IRL?
Go to the Settings icon in the upper left corner and select Twitter to integrate your Twitter friends. Once you get to step 3 you can select which Twitter friends you want to send a personal invite.
↑ TopHow can I see the messages from the last couple of hours?
Go to Talk and click on the Friends tab in Talk. At the bottom you will see pages 1, 2, 3 with newer and older next to them. Click to browse the message history of your friends.
↑ TopIs it possible to only show my own friends?
You can use Map Layers on the left control panel to filter the people who are visible to you.
↑ TopWhat are the other options in Map Layers?
Map Layers also lets you choose the types of content that you want to see on the map, from news alerts to photos, videos, live broadcasts and other events.
↑ TopHow do I add my own photos and videos to the map?
Photos and Video: To add a photo or video through Mobypicture, create an account at www.mobypicture.com and add IRL Connect to the services you want to post to. You can directly share content on IRL Connect via email, MMS, Web upload or Mobypicture¡¯s iPhone app.
Live Video Broadcast: Stream live video from your mobile or computer to IRL Connect with Bambuser. Sign up at www.bambuser.com to shoot with almost no delay and chat with your viewers on IRL Connect while broadcasting.
When you post your photo and video from Mobypicture or start your live video stream from Bambuser, it will show up as a media event in the Talk stream in IRL Connect.
Does IRL Connect have a mobile application?
IRL Connect is an open platform for mobile developers. You can find the mobile applications that work with IRL Connect in our Application Gallery.
↑ TopHow do I send a personal message to Twitter friends through IRL Connect?
In Talk you will see the minicons @reply () and private message () under the avatars. These can be used to communicatie to your Twitter friends. If someone is not following you on Twitter, you can only send @replies and no private messages. IRL Connect will automatically show you what options are available. You can also click on a Twitter icon on the map and use the Talk tab to send a message.
How can I communicate with my Facebook friends through IRL Connect?
We support posting to Facebook. Your friends will see your status update message on their wall. You can even choose when you want your updates to go to Facebook, just tick the Facebook button on / off.

First, find your friend on the map by going to their location or searching for them. Add them to the Friends panel by clicking on their icon. Select Add Friend. You can also add a friend in the Talk stream by clicking on the under their avatar.
When I click on my icon on the map, a Talk balloon comes up, how do I use that?
- Personalize your identity, add or remove friends and send a private message in Profile
- See all your friends and remove them when you feel they are less friendly ;)
- Send a public or private message. To send a private message you should add that person as a friend.
How do I add a friend of a friend?
Go to your friend¡¯s icon on the map and open the balloon. Now select the Friends tab and select the Add Friend box for the person you want to add.

Orange icons are clusters of other IRL Connect users

I’ve forgotten my password.
On the login screen at www.irlconnect.com, click on forgot your password. Just fill in the e-mail address you used when you signed up and we'll send you a link to reset your password.

Your username is registered during the startup process. If you would like to change your nickname in the application you can send an e-mail to support@irlconnect.com.

You can go to www.irlconnect.com, click on forgot your password and fill in the e-mail address you used when you signed up. We'll then send you a link to reset your password.

Can I hide my location or make it visible only to friends?
With IRL Connect, it is up to you where you put your icon so the freedom to be anonymous is already built in.
↑ TopHow do you get my location?
The first time you log into IRL Connect we use your IP address to place your icon on the map. This is never your exact address. It is only the address of where you login to use the internet.
↑ TopDo I have to show my exact address?
No, you can put your icon everywhere, whether it is in China while you are actually in the United States or in Africa while you are on the North pole.
↑ TopWhat is Wi-Fi positioning? Does this show my exact location?
IRL Connect has built in Wi-Fi support from Loki.com which automatically puts your icon on your exact location. To enable Wi-Fi positioning, click the Loki button next to the GO and ME buttons. This will automatically update your location whenever your new location is 2 km or more away from your current icon position. It takes 30-60 seconds from the moment you activate Loki to the moment IRL Connect is able to move your icon.
You can turn off Automatic Wi-Fi positioning by clicking on the Loki button to deselect. Please note that our partner Loki.com currently does not support Google Chrome and only works in urban areas. See the coverage map on http://www.loki.com/support/coverage-map.

General:

Age Requirement:
IRL Services are available for individuals aged 13 years or older (“Qualified User”). However, if the Qualified User is under the age of 18, then he or she must review The Terms with his or her parent or legal guardian (“Parent”). Both the Qualified User and the Parent understand and agree to The Terms, and the Qualified User agrees to have the Parent accept The Terms on his or her behalf. User’s access to IRL Services is an acknowledgement that the Parent has been notified of these Terms and consents to these Terms. Such Parent accepts full responsibility for the Qualified User’s use of IRL Services, including all financial charges and legal liability that he or she may incur.
Personal Use Only
IRL Services are made available for personal, non-commercial use only. If a User would like to make any commercial use of the IRL Services in any manner, such User must contact IRL directly and enter into an express written agreement with IRL in advance.
Property Rights:
The User hereby acknowledges that all property rights (including all intellectual property rights) of IRL Services vest exclusively with IRL. All content (“Site Content”) found on or through IRL Services, including all User generated content and uploads, are the proprietary property of IRL and IRL Services, with all rights reserved.
Disclaimer of Warranties:
IRL DISCLAIMS, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, ANY AND ALL RESPONSIBILITY OR LIABILITY FOR THE ACCURACY, CONTENT, LEGALITY, RELIABILITY, OPERABILITY OR AVAILABILITY OF INFORMATION OR MATERIAL AVAILABLE OR DISPLAYED WITHIN IRL SERVICES. Indemnity:
The User agrees to indemnify and hold IRL, its subsidiaries and affiliates, and each of their directors, officers, agents, contractors, partners and employees, harmless from and against any loss, liability, claim, demand, damages, costs and expenses, including reasonable attorney's fees, arising out of or in connection with any User Content, any Third Party Applications, Software or Content posted or shared by the User on or through IRL Services, User conduct in connection with IRL Service or with other Users of IRL Services, or any violation of this Agreement or of any law or the rights of any third party.
Limitation of Liability:
IRL and Affiliates of IRL Services will not be liable for User’s use or misuse of IRL Services under any circumstances. Any User Claim against IRL and/or Affiliates of IRL Services shall be inhibited by this limitation of liability to the fullest extent of the law, including, but not limited to, any recovery of damages. Such limitation of liability applies to any and all User use of, inability to use, or reliance on IRL Services, as well as any and all damages incurred through Affiliates of IRL Services. This limitation shall also apply to the costs of procurement of substitute goods or services, lost profits, or lost data. This limitation of liability shall apply notwithstanding any failure of essential purpose of any limited remedy and to the fullest extent permitted by Law.
The User should understand that differences in jurisdiction might impact the extent of User rights.
Acts of God:
Without limiting the foregoing, under no circumstances shall IRL or Affiliates of IRL Services be held liable for any delay or failure in performance resulting directly or indirectly from acts of nature, forces, or causes beyond its reasonable control, including, without limitation, Internet failures, computer equipment failures, telecommunication equipment failures, other equipment failures, electrical power failures, strikes, labor disputes, riots, insurrections, civil disturbances, shortages of labor or materials, fires, floods, storms, explosions, acts of God, war, governmental actions, orders of domestic or foreign courts or tribunals, non-performance of third parties, or loss of or fluctuations in heat, light, or air conditioning.
Choice of Law:
The Terms will be exclusively governed by and construed in accordance with the Laws of The Netherlands. All disputes between User and IRL or Affiliates of IRL Services shall (with the exception of all and any non-Dutch judicial institutions designated on the basis of local, provincial, national and/or international jurisdictional laws and regulations) be exclusively submitted to the relevant court holding jurisdiction in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. If for any reason a court of competent jurisdiction finds any provision or portion of The Terms to be unenforceable, the remainder of The Terms will continue in full force and effect. IRL reserves the right to bring interim relief proceedings in any country.
THE TERMS CONSTITUTE THE ENTIRE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE PARTIES WITH RESPECT TO THE SUBJECT MATTER HEREOF AND SUPERSEDES AND REPLACES ALL PRIOR OR CONTEMPORANEOUS UNDERSTANDINGS OR AGREEMENTS, WRITTEN OR ORAL, REGARDING SUCH SUBJECT MATTER. ANY WAIVER OF ANY PROVISION OF THE TERMS WILL BE EFFECTIVE ONLY IF IN WRITING AND SIGNED BY IRL.
PRIVACY POLICY
Purpose:
This Privacy Policy governs IRL Services, and provides important information regarding the use and disclosure of User information collected through IRL Services. This Privacy exists to help the User make an informed decision about whether to use or continue using IRL Services.
General:
All private User details will be treated as confidential and will not be made available to third parties without written permission.
IRL and IRL Services are not responsible for User details and information posted by the User, knowingly or unknowingly. No legal liability can be assessed to IRL or IRL services if any damages or claims arise from such information. It is the User’s responsibility to control his or her privacy settings and to understand which information is private and which information is available to 3rd parties. Through the options provided by IRL services, the User is responsible for controlling the accessibility of his or her private account and profile. The User should manage his or her account and privacy settings on an ongoing basis accordingly.
Location Disclosure:
IRL Services currently uses Google Maps™ (http://code.google.com/intl/nl-NL/apis/maps), wifi, and IP tracing (“Remote Tracing Technology”) to identify User and available 3rd Party locations. IRL also intends to use Cellular Phone Identification and Global Positioning System (“GPS”) in the near future to further indentify User and available 3rd Party Locations. Such tracing and location disclosure is inherent in the use of IRL and IRL Services, and the User understands and is legally responsible for all of the consequences deriving from such disclosure upon creating an account with IRL.
Transfer of 3rd Party Accounts:
IRL provides the User with the ability to import personal information/social networking accounts into their IRL User Account. In doing so, the User is legally responsible for all information imported and must manage such information accordingly with the options provided by IRL.
Abuse of Information:
While IRL uses commercially reasonable safeguards, IRL cannot ensure the security of all User information. Therefore, information transmitted to IRL is done so at the User’s risk. IRL and IRL Services are not responsible for the misuse and abuse of information by the User or 3rd parties.
Merger, Sale, or Bankruptcy:
In the event that IRL is acquired by or merged with a third party entity, IRL reserves the right, in any of these circumstances, to transfer or assign the information collected from Users as part of such merger, acquisition, sale, or other change of control so that IRL can continue operations. In the unlikely event of bankruptcy, insolvency, reorganization, receivership, or assignment for the benefit of creditors, or the application of laws or equitable principles affecting creditors' rights generally, IRL may not be able to control how User information is treated, transferred, or used. Users will be notified of any such change in ownership or control of personally identifiable User information. This Privacy Notice is incorporated into and is subject to the IRL Terms of Use.Changes and Updates:
This Privacy Policy may be revised periodically without further notice to the User. Please revisit this page to stay aware of any such changes.
